The Dragonflies are one of my favorites. I have been trying to capture some with the lens. Finally today I pulled it off at the Calendar Gardens Lily Pond. They were very active and managed to get some shots of them being still.

Hand held with the Canon IS USM lens and shot in manual mode.

This one landed on this lotus plant and offered a different view of himself.

I did a lot cropping and after comparing the original to this one I don't feel I lost alot of quality but did loose some distracting background.

Thank you in advance for your comments.

Really is a fabulous capture and love the dragonfly's tail end is up in the air. Looks like he's giving you a high one (five, lol)

Sandi what kind of flower is that he's one?

Beautiful capture and close-up. The detail and the tail (lol) are wonderful. I especially like the muted green background and the great framing.

It looks to me like a high quality image, Sandi. You would never know it was cropped very much at all. Excellent work.

A most unusual perspective on a dragonfly, but it works well especially with the color of the lotus and the dof. You picked a really nice dark color for framing too. Nicely done, Sandi.

Well it's not everyday that you see a dragonfly sitting on a lotus plant like that, What a great capture! I really like that your cropped this shot, and how you framed it. This will make a great desk top.

I wonder if this is actually the seedpod of the Lotus, because the flower in bloom is so beautiful. The Japanese and CHinese use it in so many ways on their bowls and plates and such. This is a most gorgeous photo. Dragonflies are so interesting, even tho a bit ugly, they are still awesome to watch. The framing you did is perfect. The Dragonfly looks as tho he is doing a dance...Verena
