A plump Yellow Bellied sapsucker woodpecker hanging onto the feeder and enjoying the last bit of suet. Of course I went out in the cold, and snow and replenished them this morning after taking this shot. They are most happy. :)

My other half made me a feeding platform as well, so went out, and scraped it off, sprinkled goodies on it as well.

He seems to have some feather markings like a Downy? I guess I have not really noticed that before, this bird seems a bit different than the other red bellied woodies.

After seeing a posting by Richie (biffobear) I decided to shoot this one through a closed window with the canon 70-200 lens.

Thanks for your comments, and stay warm.

Yes, be kind to the birds and they will pose for you. Nice shot of this acrobat, Sandi. Unusual and beautiful.

Lovely shot from your backgarden Tigz, it's good to know your feeding the birds this winter, I only wish I had a backgarden of my own.

Those Downy Woodpeckers are so soft Tigz. :) Great shot of him with his red belly pointing upward. Crystal clear.

Are you sure that it's a Red Bellied Woodpecker, Sandi? To me it's a RHABSAB (red headed and body speckled acrobatic bird), a very rare species of the woodpecker family, lol.

Of course I'm kidding now. I'm serious however by saying that you've captured a very fine image.

Regards, Cornelius.

Sandi
He is very plump. Like he has his winter feathers on! Its cathartic to sit and watch these birds jump around the birdfeeder. You got a great acrobatic shot of this beautiful bird!

Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where the heck is the ceiling.

Maybe I should wash my windows. lol I would never get a shot this good through them, especially in today's rain. I filled the feeder this morning and it is empty at 3 p.m.! Yikes. Feeding birds gets to be expensive. As for the shoot, I usually dress warmly and hang out the window. This woodpecker is quite lovely, Sandy. I love his red head.

Nice shot, Sandi. Don't know what your shooting distance is, but if it's within flash range with that lens, some flash fill will enhance the detail of your visitors without even being noticeable
in the daylight.
Just have the lens close to the glass so you don't get any bounce flare.
