I do not recall ever seeing these beautiful birds before, but I started spotting them so I bought them a feeder all their own.

I think this is the Northern Oriole (Baltimore Oriole Variety) from what I can tell by the Identifier that was included with the feeder.

I have a few more of these, I sat for a long time with the the canon 450d and canon 70-300 IS USM lens trying for some shots. I had a heck of a time with exposure settings, as I was shooting towards the west in the late afternoon light. I shot this one just today, and I do hope you like it, I do not like the area around his beak but I guess that was from the strong light, and perhaps the light cast off of the feeder.

Thank you for commenting, on my first ever Oriole upload.

It's a beauty of a shot, Tigs. I saw one of these today too. It was trying to get a piece of twine that was wrapped about a short tree branch perhaps to build a nest with. What type of feeder is that and what do they drink? It looks very much like a hummingbird feeder. The lighting doesn't seem to be much of a problem in the final image though.

A good clear shot Tigz although on my monitor the image appears slightly over saturated. I hope you don't object to my bluntness.

They have their own type feeder which is similar to the Hummingbird Feeder as you know Tigz. They are one of the most beautiful birds in our part of the world. They were a lot of them when I was a kid. They disappeared for awhile and I am glad to see them back. Excellent work.

I think you did a wonderful job! I get these once in awhile in my yard in early spring ( I'm in NE FL )wish they would stay!
That was a difficult combo of colors to capture together and you did fine - the soft light green background helps a lot too.

Oriole's are sure colorful birds & you captured his colors perfectly. I've looked everywhere for Oriole feeders & they are sold out. I have three Orioles that visit my feeders daily while my neighbor has about a dozen visitors. I guess these birds are in full force this year & sure do make interesting subjects for the camera.

Excellent capture Sandi & the feeder compliments the bird nicely.

Oh, almost forgot ... my neighbor told me that Oriole's love grape jelly, so I now have a small bowl / plate set out with a tablespoon of grape jelly on it. I have watched them feed on it & it's gone by the next day. You'll have to give it a try. Orioles also love citrus fruit ... oranges are good.

Very well done on a difficult shot - perhaps a tad oversaturated but the west sun will do that.

A gorgeous pose, Sandi. You did give the feeder too much space. You can crop this tight enough that only a slice of the top and bottom are showing, with the background green showing in between.
