Autumn Colors On The MIssissinewa River

Took the day to capture the colors of autumn. I spent the entire day capturing the beauty of the season, my favorite time of the year.

This was taken at the Mississinewa Recreation area which is south of where I live. This area here is called "The Sevn Pillars" because of the carved out limestone along this area of the river.

Cindy had mentioned a ND filter, and I remembered I had one, so I used it today on the sigma 17-70 lens.

Here is a little bit of information on this historic area: Mississinewa Lake: the name Mississinewa was derived from the Miami Indian word "Mis-chis-in-wah," which means water on a slope. The area is rich in Indian history. Chief Francis Godfroy established the Miami Trading Post near the mouth of the Mississinewa in 1817. Frances Slocum was abducted as a child and raised by Miami Indians. She was referred to as the "White Rose of the Miami's," married an Osage War Chief, and settled in the Mississinewa Area. Both were buried on project land, and their burial sites were moved during lake construction.

Beautiful scene and composition, Sandi. This is also a good example of where you might try some experimentation using Flash Fill to illuminate deeply shaded areas of foreground.
Get your shots first, and then go back and redo them with the flash head raised. The camera will automatically balance the light with the Daylight exposure already programmed in the camera's computer.

the sun makes the autumn leaves glow with color, the sky is such a rich blue. I have always liked worn down yellow limestone bluffs with natural arches. Terrific photo Sandi! it's an A+++ in my book!

A great shot and I like how you took it from the shadows. The sky coloring is really good.
The light on the river bank is so good. Nice to see somewhat of a departure for you.

What an impossible coincidence, Sandi. That second cave on the left is where I grew up. I probably never mentioned that I was raised by a family of badgers.

Once again I've showed up late on the scene. All the best adjectives have already been used up. "great, fine, beautiful, amazing, wonderful, love, terrific". Let me add phenomenal, gorgeous, stunning, dazzling, magnificent, incredible, radiant, striking, impeccable, majestic, splendid, superb, interesting, fabulous, marvelous, extraordinary, amazing, remarkable, exquisite, first-rate, sublime, lovely, brilliant and glorious.

Seriously, great idea shooting from the shadows into the brilliant lighting. Not a thing to critique on your shot.
