Spotted this one yesterday, while it was snowing, and blowing outside, I thought he/she looked like a huge puff ball. :)

Used the canon 70-200mm f/4l lens with the kenko DGX 1.4 converter, with a lot of cropping done to image.

Thank you for commenting, winter has arrived here for now anyway. Lots of snow out there this morning, how much I'm not sure but it's a shovel out day for sure. :)

Starlings or "Stinkers",as they are known around these parts are quite attractive with their glossy coats..Theis is a juvenile..The little hearts on his chest look neat..Nice capture Sandi...R.

Love the detail in this little fellow's plumage Sandi. It is easy to see from your photo why they are called "Star'lings.
The light background is perfect.
In this country they are hated by orchardists for eating the fuit and loved by farmers for demolishing the grubs :)
Keep warm by friend, puff up your feathers like the starling lol

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Again you and Mother Nature have shown us the beauty and wonders all around us. Excellent photo, Sandi.

We got ice and some snow yesterday and over night. We will be back in the forties tomorrow, so the shovel will remain at rest for now.

Wonderful detail on this starling. They're not much liked around these parts either for nesting reasons, but what a striking bird and you captured it so well.

LOL "puff up your feathers" and stay warm

Neat shot of a not so nice bird. Starlings are so numerous and do so much crop damage they are considered pests where I live. They also will push the eggs out of other bird varieties nests, and lay eggs in that nest for the other birds to raise, and as a benefit, eliminate competition since the other bird variety fails to propagate.

Sandi - Starlings are the junk food birds in this area. They arrive, en masse, scare away the other birds, and begin 'eating', with a mania that causes seed to fly in every direction. Pests. Yet,in this photo, you capture the starling with a peaceful repose. Well done! Thad

Very good focus on the the head and upper part of the body, the white spots are like little snow flakes. People hate these birds, but when the sun hits them just right the colors are stunning. They are very alert, if they see you or your camera move they are gone in a second. Nice capture Sandi.

It's coat is sure fluffy and thick for the winter cold. I thought starlings were black with a long tail and brown breast..
