I think that the cardinals successfully stopped them from being called red finches due to congressional influence. They are definitely red. Great shot. Enjoyed it. Tom
The birds plumage reminds me more of Salmon pink Tigz, it's so thoughtful of you to feed the birds during the winter. Lovely clear shot, and what a sweet little Finch.
Beautiful, Tigs. In any event, this one does appear to be more red than purple. I have never seen a purple finch, so I can't vouch for their colors. Great capture.
Just Beautiful Sandi! I've seen a lot of variations in the red, but never once a purple one, although that is their proper name. Wonderful clarity and I love the seed in his beak. -Christie
My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
I'm with you I think they are red, where did the name purple come from. Fabulous capture and love the early morning sunshine. We have them here and it's amazing they travel around with the gold Finch, but I know they are in the Finch family
