Another capture from the Calendar Gardens (Defries) shot today. Used the canon 40D with the canon 70-200mm F 4/L lens without the converter, at a focal length of 200mm, and used continuous mode. I was using both of my zoom lens's today.

I did alot of cropping, and hope you don't find the purple flower to distracting, I liked the composition results of this one, after the crop.

Thanks for your comments, I always like to read what you have to say.

The purple flowers give a good contrast to the colour of the butterfly wings and background. A fine capture with great clarity, Sandi.

The little unopened flower hiding the butterfly is distracting..Having said that the picture itself is sharp and well focused..The TC Doesn't affect the quality at all..R.

Great shot of this Swallowtail, Sandi. See that the Buddleia davidii, aka summer lilac, butterfly-bush, or orange eye is already in full bloom. The ones in the garden of my wife are not that far yet (so, no butterflies as well), probably because of the very cold weather that we recently had.

Love this wonderful post!

Regards, Cornelius.

The 40D seems to handle the cropping just fine Tigz. Noise is not evident and clarity stays good. Can you not get closer to them so you don't have to do so much cropping. Not a complaint, just curious.

I never mind seeing butterfly bush as that is what attracts the butterflies to begin with - excellent shot - you really got the beauty of the wings.

The butterfly is beautiful. One wishes the bud wasn't there, but it is still a great shot. The purple is very complimentary.

This is beautiful! Super-douper clairity and focus. The purple flower is not distracting at all, but I think the frame is. In my opinion, it seems full enough without boxing it in more. Lovey work either way Sandi.

Love this composition Sandi. The butterfly is perfect and I think the Buddleia enhances the images being a favourite for butterflies.

This is lovely and wonderful colours too. Like Susanne, I too thought it a pity that little green stem got in the way abit. But otherwise, a great capture. Well done!
