The other day I spotted a pair of swans doing what I think for them was bathing. They would dunk, and come back up, rub their long necks along their body, and flap their wings.I watched them for some time, and took lots of pics.
Not sure if I have any more worth sharing, but I liked this one, and hope you do too. Used the canon equipment for this one, I had to do a heavy crop on this one.

Swans do this to 'wash' out those tiny creepy crawly's that hide in there down as they swim! (Just like washing nits out of hair!) ..lol .. .. I got myself scratching now! .. :0)

Stunning capture and beautiful colour especially in the water and love the light and shade plus the water droplets coming of the swan.The detail is lovely and sharp in this capture as well.

To protect the hull of a ship from shells, 'anti fouling' (a special kind of paint) is used. I don't think that swans have a natural 'anti fouling system' so the only thing that remains to stay free from tiny submerged bugs is to behave this way.

Beautiful capture Sandi and caught in mid splash. These birds do their thing bathing , smoothing out feathers, getting them perfectly flattened out, and yes , dealing with parasites, as well as reaching back for an oily gland and waxing themselves making them water tight. They do this for a very long time several times a day. Then finally when all is done they give themselves a really good flap and stretch.
