I have been hearing that the Monarch butterfly's habitat is being destroyed, and I know that last year I saw only a few, compared to times before. you can click here to read more

It looks like the middle of winter out there today, I thought this might be a nice post for a crappy weather day, that some of us are having.

I reworked the original that can be found somewhere in my large gallery, I cropped it, and did some editing in perfect effects 4 for this finished look.

Thank you for commenting.

I believe all species of butterflies are at risk...because of the changes in the weather patterns!...

the Monarch is popular over here as well!...good capture and posting here

We Humans or should I say these large companies are destroying the planet for profit..What happens when there is nothing left to destroy..No more profits then..Nice one of this once abundant species..R.

What a beautiful Butterfly and image, Sandi.
What a sad state we have put this beauty in . Seems we are only concerned with the almighty dollar . I think Standing Bear said it quite well many years ago .

that one is perfect! the clarity is great, color is true, love the green melt you got for a background. yeah i heard something like that as well. i think it depends on the weather considering how far south they fly to migrate. last year with the warmer spring they were everywhere here.

Beautiful macro of this butterfly Sandi. We are just starting to see some of them flutter around the yard here in Italy. It's so hard to get them to pose for me!

I didn't see very many last year either, Tigz. I thought it was because it was so dry.
Beautiful post.

Sandi, thanks for the link. I've checked it out, but what shall I say?

We had a rather similar story in my small country. A subsidized interest group claimed that a special butterfly species was threatened with extinction here. They seemed to get right because there were hardly any to be seen in the summer of 2012. The money from supporters flooded inside. In the summer of 2013 there were so much to see however that they almost formed a plague, and that was not because of the gained money. Nature is strong. Often people are too concerned. It's good when people are worried based on facts. On the other hand it's not right when their worries are based on assumptions and sentiments. I can't judge here what's the reality with the Monarch's. The in this case worried people may be right, and that would be bad.

Thanks however for your wonderful image.

Regards, Cornelius.

A super post with wonderful color and detail and most welcome as I too look out my window and see nothing but swirls of white stuff blowing through the air and accumulating on the ground...also very concerned to hear of the declining numbers of monarchs and other species in nature.

Such a nice butterfly picture Sandi. The color and the composition is just great. I hate to hear of the butterfly's plight. It really is upsetting and exasperating at the same time.

I heard that they were in danger. They migrate from you down to Mexico for the winter and the forests there are in danger. This is a very good and very beautiful capture.
