The other day I stopped at the local gardens at the park in town. I was leaving one area, and heading to another when I spotted the group of swans that were heading to the lake that was behind me. I had the 40mm lens on the camera, and thought oh what the heck I might as well give it a try.

Info: ISO 400, f11, exposure time 1/800 sec. with the canon 40D set on P mode, I did not have time to change it to continuous.

I did do some cropping, and contrast adj with sharpening with a touch of highlighting. I was pleased at how well it stopped the action, and how clear it is. I did not use any noise removal.

Thank you for the views, and comments.

I wish I was a Glow Worm, a Glow Worm's never glum, 'cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?

Splendid Sandi. Wish already for years to take such and image, but never succeeded. To me it's a once in a lifetime shot my friend! Kudos!

Very good settings on your camera Sandi. Shooting almost head on or directly away from you will give a good chance of nice freeze action. For such a small length of zoom your details are wonderful; especially the light on the wings. I don't detect any noise Sandi and you shot at 400 ISO. I'm impressed with it. You did well.

Life's moments are sweet. I just want to capture all that I can of them.

Sandi, all these years we have been on Caedes, I do not recall any photograph of swans doing anything other than swimming on lakes and rivers. If I am anywhere nearly correct with that, then this picture is not only exceptional, it is unique.

Tchaikovsky gave us "Swan Lake." With your Canon 40D, you have given us "Swan Air."

I too do not recall any flying swan pictures so this is quite wonderfully unique and crystal clear and sharp!

Seeing birds in flight always reminds me how truly free they are compared to us humans. The clarity is good while there's plenty for the eye to see, & I like to see the sun penetrate the Swans flight feathers too.

A definite thumbs up from me Tigz. (o:

What a wonderful image Sandi and it would have been wonderful if you'd had all the time in the world to take it let alone taking it so quickly. The light on their wings is so special.

I regained some power of words after all...:)
When I was staring in awe at this spectacular image I just realised that this is a kind of deja vu - they look like a Pterodactyls...! Against the sunlight their bones are almost visible. This is some treat for me. Most personal thanks and respects!
