Hummer's

I have never seen so much activity here at my mom's at the feeder, I went to the store the other night and bought another one. They don't seem to like to share even though there are many ports. They chase each other, and make their little chirp sounds, they are very vocal if you just listen.

I enjoy sitting on the porch, and watching them. At times when I walk outside I feel like I'm in the path of dive bomber hummingbirds, they are everywhere right now, and I'm really enjoying it, they are going to be making their trek south soon, as we are getting cooler weather now.

I have not tried to get any pics. but yesterday late afternoon I decided to give it a go. I tried to clean up the feeder with software, and this was run through several programs, and I know it has a rather heavy processed look, but thought it was worth sharing. I have never managed a two for one capture, so I was really thrilled.

Info: ISO 400, AV mode, F/5.6, 260mm with the 70-300 canon IS USM Lens.

Thank you for the views, and comments, and I hope you have a hummer of a day.

As I type this out, I can see the hummers flitting about outside. :)

I imagine it is very difficult to capture two at once - well done you !
Beautiful vibrant colours and a well balanced capture Sandi.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Good capture Sandi. I bet you are really enjoying those hummers. I would be. I have only seen one or two and they were too far for photos. The software made it look like a lovely painting...at least to my eyes.

I watched and photographed hummingbirds this summer while on vacation and I witnessed how they chase each other away. Lots of fun and experimentation with camera settings. Nice how you captured two and stopped the wings! Fantastico Sandi!

Very good capture Sandi with both hummingbirds whirring away. Chasing one another is quite common among other birds here too. They are not so broad minded :)

August is the time of year for hummers here, but there are still a few hanging around. Great job catching them, though! They are too zippy for me. lol

You did a great job of cleaning up the feeder, Tigz. I bet you were excited to get so much action late in the summer.
Well presented.

Hi Sandi, it's great to know you're having fun with the birds. I have two feeders, but there's rarely more than one bird on at a time. Our summer is still blazing like a hot coal and this weekend was supposed to hit 106. I don't know if it did, but it was pretty hot. I'm a little concerned by your feeder solution, it looks cloudy and may be sour. When I make a batch, it's absolutely clear and I never leave it longer than a week in the feeders (which is still too long, according to some experts). Anyway, have a great time with these wonderful creatures.

It's very hard to make a good capture of hummers because their wings are so fast that most of the time they can't be seen on a capture at all. Two hummers depicted in such a good way is exceptional. My compliments Sandi!

Regards, Cornelius.

Very nice. We only have one hummer in our backyard. Its a female
and she pretty much owns the place. We don't put a feeder out but instead have planted some hummer friendly plants, (salvia, lantana and some others). I guess that there is only enough nectar for her and she guards it very aggressively, (if you are a hummer that is).
