This lovely feline is called a Savannah. Here is some info on this breed.

.Savannah cats are man-made products, the result of cross-breeding a domestic cat with an African serval. Some call this hybrid a "designer breed". Private ownership of Savannah cats, and other hybrid breeds, may be subject to local or state laws due to the possibility of their wildcat instincts posing a threat to the public. The wild trait gene is more pronounced in the first set of breeding.

The first litter of cats produced from a cross-breeding is referred to as an F1 litter. Subsequent litters are known as F2, F3, and so on. Offspring of the first pairing (F1) are 50% domestic and 50% wildcat. An F2 generation can be 25-35% wildcat, like Hoss pictured above.

Hoss is taller than the average house cat, has longer legs, and seemed to be enjoying the sun that was out that day.

This was taken the canon 40D and canon 70-200mm f4/L lens, fstop 4.0, aimed through fencing.

Thank you for commenting.

That is a satisfied yawn - stretching and enjoying the warmth of the sun. Lovely shot Sandi.

I don't know what to think about this new hybrid Tigz, your narrative is very informative. The cats expression is priceless and your image quality is very good.

Having this 'kitty' as a pet might be equally challenging to keeping an alligator at home... :) Just look at those teeth!
Somehow I am more afraid of even mild-tempered wholly domesticated cats than even allegedly ferocious dogs like Rottweilers or so :)
Predictability is what I value high in dogs. Felines are just like any female, dangerously unpredictable LOL
On the other hand, I think that Boris would approve of such companion.
Most interesting and very appealing image, dearest SAS.

I see it comes with it's own litter box. LOL. It looks a little like the regular old tiger cat. Without my glasses on, I would probably mistake a Savannah for a Tiger Cat and get my hand bitten off. Excellent expression on the kitty's face, and a good looking shot, Sandi.

Good timing to get this expression and a good view of the rather dangerous looking teeth Sandi. Nice work.
Perhaps not exactly a lap cat. I googled Savannahs - very expensive !
They are illegal in New Zealand, and Australia.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

I would have mistaken it for a tabby housecat without the explanation Sandi - cute capture and very interesting info.

You have taken a very good photo, Sandi. It does look much like the last cat our family had. Except, of course, that this one may kill and eat us. A few years ago, back in Ohio, there was a farmer who kept a bunch of wild "exotic" animals in cages on his property. One night they all escaped due to someone not looking the gate. Authorities came in and had to put all of these animals down. What a shame! I do not know why they felt they had to breed a mix of this sorts but I do not think I am for it, on many levels.

A fine photo; purrrrfect for the vertical format. I appreciated your narrative of the crossbreeding process and background, Sandi. Looks like this kitty will need a larger Cat Room (litter box) soon.

The "Cat In The Hat," has become the "Cat In The Box," Tigz. I think these could be quite dangerous if they started breeding in the wild. Feral cats would hit a new breed.

Who knew? I personally think it is sad when people crossbreed
wild and domestic species. The end result doesn't fit in either world and ends up in a cage. Pretty cool catching the pose in the box.

Great capture but are these Zoo animals or house pets?

I have heard of them but did not know the limitations regarding having one.

Thanks bunches! :)
