I was thrilled to spot this little guy. At first when looking at him from behind, I thought he was a bee. These little guys are very hard to spot, and are just as fast if not faster than a hummingbird.

I did not get any pics. of one last year, so this was a thrill for me. I used the 100mm macro lens, as I did not have time change to lens, and did a fair amount of cropping. It is the only usuable capture that I got of him.

There are more than 1,200 species of these moths worldwide, and roughly 125 of them can be seen regularly in North America. Also called hawk moths, sphinx moths, clearwing moths and bee-hawk moths, and in the caterpillar stage, they are called hornworms.

These guys you have to really look for, and they are more apt to be out and about on a warm sunny day. Thank you for commenting, I do appreciate it.

Nice capture of this fast moving little fellow. The first time I saw one I had no clue what it was. A very cool insect displayed beautifully in this image.

Sharp focus on the moth with its "rolled" feeler. Nice and well timed capture Sandi.

How special to come across this little guy and come away with a great photo, Sandi! I've never seen one of these on this side of the Atlantic. Time to confess...how many times did ya click the shutter? I know I would have been trigger happy. Fantastico!

They are one of the strangest looking creatures I have ever seen. You have captured this one perfectly, Sandi. The colors in this shot are gorgeous.

I wish I was a Glow Worm, a Glow Worm's never glum, 'cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?

I've only seen one of these once and of course couldn't get a shot as they are incredibly fast - kudos Sandi and what a wonderful macro you got.

I've never seen one of these. You're very lucky to get this opportunity to grab its portrait. Well done, Sandi.

These moths are no friend of the gardener, and the tomato hornworm is a very destructive pest. An egg-laying Sphinx moth flew by my shoulder one evening and at first I thought it was one of the local hummingbirds. Then I realized it was far too dark out for the birds. The moth had curled it's abdomen into a 'C' and was rapidly depositing eggs on my precious tomato plants. That moth didn't live long, but I was still pulling those ghastly hornworms off my plants for weeks. Not my favorite bug.
