Apparently I'm the only one who was curious enough to Google "cypress knee" to find that the shape of this santa, tall and skinny with a high, rounded cap, needed very little carving, it being the natural shape of the above ground/water "roots" of the swamp cypress trees. The actual carving was of the the hood edge and the features inside. A good entry for the contest, assisted by your normal crisp focussing.
If you've ever wanted to make a difference but found it hard to believe that one person could... check out the Kiva Team Caedes discussion thread and discover that anything is possible.
Clever photograph, Sandi! You've got the warmth of the interior tree, hand carved Santa, and red brick against the reflection of the snowy-filled landscape outdoors. Nice pairing of the two!
My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
