A friend of mine told me about this beautiful owl that had been spotted on a major road not far from where I live. I took a drive looking for her, to no avail. Then a few hours later at 6:30 pm I decided to try again, and this time I was rewarded with finding her, and she was in a spot where I could safely pull into a parking area to take some shots. I walked over to a nearby tree that I used to lean on, and clicked away a few times. I might have been able to get closer but I sure did not want to scare her.

This was taken with the Nikon D750, and Nikkor 80-400mm lens at full zoom, and I cropped it heavy. I had two versions of this and for me I preferred this one. For me this has to most the most exciting capture that I have taken. I have never seen one of these beautiful birds-let alone get a picture of one.

She was actually across the road and one pole south of where I was so this was a reach.

This made my day!

I had another pic. to post for Manic Monday, but I could not wait to share this one.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

Beginner's luck (☺ ☺ ☺) or just once in a lifetime shot, Sandi?
Think it's not necessary to provide you with my answer, my friend.
My compliments!

It may have been a reach, Sandi, but you and your lens came through quite well. Your focus on an image shot with with a 400mm length is very good, and that wide and clean pano helps to solidify in our minds the high location of her perch, with that single long wire leading us up and into her from the photo's far left and middle. If there's a rule of thirds that applies here it would have to be horizontal rather than vertical. Minimalism at its best.
