You are right, this duck does stand out. Colors and feathers are beautiful, excellent composition and capture. Especially like the reflection of the duck in the water.
The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
As a retired 'salt', to me this American Black Duck is busy while 'station keeping'. For 'not salt's' it's probably waiting for its date, ☺ . Anyhow a very detailed and excellent image again, Sandi. Perfectly done (per usual), my friend!

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
Hmmmmm... I checked images listings and the taxonomy for an "American Black Duck" and found that while this breed does indeed resemble the mallard, none of the images were of a duck like the one you've photographed. In fact, a scrutiny of North American ducks, ducks with black heads and white bodies, ducks of the world, and so on, brought me no identification. There are a number of ducks whose head coloring stops at mid-neck, with a straight line, but none look like this. So far it's an enigma for me. Was this a preserve or zoo, Sandi? Someplace that imports wildlife? It's a very nice capture but my OCD is nagging me into identifying it. ;oP
