Spotted this huge moth, which I think had just emerged, at the garden a few days ago. I have no idea what kind it is, but I felt I needed to try to get a capture of him/her.

I was not sure what category to put this one, so decided on butterflies.

That is a Modest Sphinx Moth. Pretty cool, aren't they?

They ARE big! If it had been sitting on your hand (for a size comparison), people would be impressively wowed. And I think you're right that it is newly emerged. I respect the respectfulness that you showed to the moth, in photographing it as unobtrusively as possible.

He's beautiful and tried finding out and also agree with Lisa it is a Modest Sphinx Moth. Great catch and keen eye - way to go
