A Present, from 'Me to You',
To get this much of the image in focus, I used f/14 - 6sec (ISO 200), no flash, shot RAW to adjust the white balance, etc,

Hope you enjoy my present to you all too
Have a Gr8 2008 (~8 8~)
Tim

Thanks Tim!! I can see that must be the new wide angle lens that I asked Santa for, but must have fallen off his sleigh!!

Great crisp color and lovely composition here. Thanks also for sending the camera info. I always find that useful.

HAPPY NEW YEAR !! :)PJ

it's not my cup of tea, but I like the shot. The white looks buttery and the red is very rich. Kinda gives an extra level to the piece. good choices all around.

Red is my favourite colours so this the first reason why I really like this shot. Furthermore, red is very hard to capture and you have did this wonderfully well here. A fine shot with a good composition.

Well, your name finally came to the top of my profile page Tim. (There, the method to my commenting madness and keeping ... or trying to keep track of my fav photographers and artists.)

So ... I am glad that your name did come up ... as I had seen this one that far back and thought to myself, 'now that ... that is how to capture the colour red' ... which you did spectacularly here (no, no ... don't want to hear about boosting saturation ... no sir, you did more than admirably on that note alone).

Good balance of dark (right side more so) and light (left hand portion) in the bokeh/background. Which sets off the creme colour of the wrapping and angular lines of the present itself well.

Still speaking of ... hmm, my one caveat ... minor at best ... a smaller f-stop perhaps? (And I have read your notes in your image's accompanying narrative. Hard to gauge the actual size of the gift ... and knowing you, you most likely chose what worked best. Just a thought.)

Or ... some more careful arrangement of the background material. The one large 'curl' of material (for lack of a better phrasing and descriptor) in the lower/mid- left hand side? ... demands a bit too much visual attention in my humble opinion.

Simplify that element would be my suggestion.

Annnnd ... that nonsense of mine aside ... colour red ... check ... reflective wrapping and ribbon ... check ... challenging lighting and environmental conditions (mom and dad and you moving 'stuff' around to set up a scene :oP) ... check.

Yep, pretty much point and shoot. :oD

Kidding of course.

Really nice work Tim. Thanks for sharing this one with us. :o)

p.s. Oops ... almost ... almost forgot ... +favs for me.
