A familiar sight! - mayne the Australian Kookaburra is from the Kingfisher family. When Kookaburras laugh (they make a laughing sound) its meant to mean that it's going to rain! This is a lovely shot - I love the contrast with the out of focus background, good job trisbert!

Thank you everyone. The Kookaburra is the largest Kingfisher. They are found in Australia and Papua New Guinea.

Beautiful shot. just one question how did you get so close with out spooking it and having it fly away. or did you just have a good zoom? its a 10 and in my favorites. beautiful shot.

Beautiful shot, Robert, nicely composed and good detail. There's a bird sanctuary quite close to us that has a couple of kookaburras - their laugh is so infectious!

Excellent - I love these birds. We have them visit us from time to time if the cockatoos are away... I never seem to have the camera loaded and ready when they turn up though! well done!
