Taken with a Canon Digital ELPH, 4 second shutter. I love the rows of lights in the city. I now wish that we had taken it at the full 1600x1200 resolution...
All great deeds and all great thoughts have a ridiculous beginning. Great works are often born on a street corner or in a restaurant's revolving door.----Albert Camus
I did a night time shoot over the bay bridge similar to this (mid eighties) ... almost got arrested .. they explained that it (Yuerba Buena\Treasure island) was Federal Land .. and they could take me and lock me up and throw away the key and not tell anybody ...
I said HAH! .. and spit in their eye and beat 'em all up ... I'm a felon now .. on the run from the MAN
Luckily, the shots came out, so I didn't have to go back ... but ... unfortunately, the shots came out, so I want to go back ... It's a vicious circle
If you're going to school in Berkeley .. It'll take you all of 30 minutes to check it out some night
What happened to me .. I was driving an errand for a company I worked for and got 'forced' onto the bridge because I was in the wrong lane .. so I used Yuerba Buena island to turn around (exits off the left lane) .. as I went around the island looking for a spot to turn around I saw "the view" of the bay bridge coming out of the west side of the island towards the city .. (spectacular) .. and knew I had to go back with my camera
So .. It took me awhile to get back .. but .. I was doing, what I called, a MOON SHOT project where I would (1) mark lines across my film before closing the door .. (2) shoot an entire roll of the full moon with my 600 mm lens .. (3) taking notes on placement, vertical\horizontal .. etc (4) .. wind it back leaving the film tongue out .. (5) re-enter the film making sure that the lines lined up before closing the door.. (6) .. then, at my leisure I could reshoot daytime or nightime scenes based on my notes
So I went out "there" .. spent a couple hours in the bushes above the bridge lanes .. and when I was on my way back to my van .. that's when the MP's caught me .. he 'escorted' me back to my vehicle, and it was a sight to behold .. spotlights, red+blue rollers, about six or eight cars all pointed at mine and another one .. they read me the riot act for a while and let me go
but ... there were (back then) 5 or 6 parking spots on the last corner of the island before approching the military base .. these were straight across from the TransAmerica bldg and the Ferry Bldg ... just not looking down on the bridge lanes like I wanted ...
of course a lot of time has passed since then .. the base might be closed\phased out

Excellent shot! Love the light-line too, and the depth of the landscape behind. Very well done! Wish I could had taken this shot, but i have only pictures shoot myself there by day... Good job!
