I've been posting rose images taken at the Cook Memorial Park and Rose Garden in Libertyville IL. This is the southern style victorian mansion on the grounds. Libertyville's most prominent building, the Cook Mansion, was built in 1879 by Ansel Brainerd Cook. Cook, a teacher and stone mason, became a prominent Chicago builder and politician, providing flagstones for the city's sidewalks and taking part in rebuilding after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. The two-story Victorian mansion served as Cook's summer home as well as the center of his horse farm, which provided animals for Chicago's horsecar lines. Several editing processes were used on this and my expertise, such as it is, is with flowers not buildings so I would greatly appreciate honest critiques that may help me improve in this subject area. All comments appreciated.

I have nothing to suggest. Kathy this is very nicely set up. Visiting these old homes is so interesting in the stories they have from so long ago. ♥:)sandi♥ =^..^=

Kathy - I really like old houses. The two story high porch is unusual on a Victorian. The angle of the sunlight provided some challenges that you handled extremely well. My only suggestion: I might have dodged a bit on the red-painted areas of the house. Well done! Thad

Some back lighting would have brought the right side out of the shadows a little. Other than that, it looks good. I bet that's some gorgeous house inside too.

Hi, Kathy...

I've been fighting my internet connection all day, but I'll give this a shot even though it might not stick.

As you know, I don't specialize in architectural photography, but here goes anyway.

Lovely photo of a charming building. That being said, I have two small issues with the photo. The chimney on the right side is chopped off. Also the graduated tint has impacted a portion of the photo. I know what that's like because it happens to me all the time.

Although Roger makes a good point about the RH chimney, other than that, Kathy, it's an excellent composition and you've handled the difficult lighting conditions very well indeed.

I've seen it...although the mansion itself is now in present day Lake County...Cook County (Chicago) is named after the family...Nice capture...

I'm not gonna rattle too much about the chimney or the tainted sky. You've done a wonderful job here. Keep them coming and start taking these shots, within no time you'll be an expert for sure. Thanks for sharing this one
