This is an old-fashioned flower that has seemingly fallen out of favor in today's gardens. I remember running down the cinder alley behind my home in Peoria when I was young, and everyone's garden had some hollyhocks - pink, white even a very dark burgandy that almost looked black. A good foofy now overlooked by most. Aah memories . . . All comments and critiques appreciated.

I can't understand why they've fallen out of favour in the U.S., Kathy. I can assure you that Altheas are still very popular in the U.K. I hope to be posting a picture of mine later in the year. With this shot, you've obviously set the standard I want to try to achieve.

These are looking great, but I sure would love to see the dark burgundy ones. I am partial to dark foofies. LOL. Excellent angle you shot here, and the color and clarity are top notch.

Kathy...So these are hollyhocks. I think I took a few pictures last week with very similar flowers. I'll have to go back and see if it's the same. As always, beautiful colors and clarity and a well balanced composition.

A beautiful capture Kathy! My mom and dad always had a lot of these around the property. I always loved the velvety feel to them!

I love hollyhocks and I"m trying to grow some in my garden. Did you know you can make a hollyhock doll out of the flowers? They're so cute. Love the pinks and the composition in this!

Oh, these are delightful, Kathy, and I love the composition! I still see quite a few Hollyhocks about, but mostly in backyards and towards the backs of garages. They certainly attract a lot of bees... maybe that is one reason they are not so plentiful. Sweet and excellent capture my friend!
