I was fortunate to attend the American Dahlia Society show a couple of years ago. The shooting conditions were terrible - in a hotel ballroom with no separate photographers hour - so I never did much with the images. But I've been working on them this summer because the flowers were too spectacular not to try to share. The national show is always in Setember as dahlias really peak in late August through September. The show this year is in a couple of weeks in Tennessee - it's a spectacular site if you can attend. All comments and critiques appreciated.

A beautiful flower, Kathy. That's nuts!! A flower show indoors. Maybe that's standard procedure among the flower show crowd, but it seems sacrilegious to my feeble mind. I'll make sure and be in Tennessee for this year's show.

I like the silky look, but there's something just a bit off with the clarity. Maybe it's the infamous silky vs. sharp problem that has plagued humanity for centuries.

Lovely post-photo work on this shot. A wonderful soft look and feel in the flower. Beautiful colours.

Think about the photo before and after, never during. The secret is to take your time. You mustn't go too fast. The subject must forget about you. Then, however, you must be very quick. Henri Cartier-Bresson

Kathy - A wow flower - you did a nice job capturing the bloom in less than ideal conditions. Thad
