The tragedy unfolding in Japan has been on my mind as I'm sure it has been in everyone's thoughts. The wonderful cherry trees that Japan gave our country are beginning to bloom in Washington D.C.now. The cherry blossom, Japan's national flower, has been cherished by the Japanese people from ancient times to the present. In Japan cherry blossoms symbolize clouds due to their nature of blooming en masse, besides being a metaphor for the ephemeral nature of life. Cherry blossoms are an omen of good fortune and are also an emblem of love, affection and represent spring. Cherry blossoms endure as a reminder of the fleeting nature of life. Let's keep the Japanese people and their continuing struggle in our thoughts now and in the many difficult months ahead. All comments and critiques appreciated.
