When thinking about the current contest I thought about all the ways we mark time in our life - births, graduations, weddings, retirements and death. Universally across most cultures we mark time with birthdays - another year has passed. This image is from my mother's 80th birthday party in March of 2006. It was a moment in time I remember so well as a few days after the party my husband and I retired. My mother celebrates her 86th birthday next week, still going strong, and so time has passed and will continue to pass . . . all comments and critiques appreciated.

A wonderful idea, Kathy. We had a big party for my mom on her 80th too. We put the full 80 candles on the cake as well and it looked like a bonfire. Such a beautiful cake this is too and such a lovely way to present it as well.
