These are German die-cut valentines from my late mother-in-law Betty's collection of valentines. These are also known as pop-up valentines as you pull down on the front piece which becomes the stand, the other pieces pop out in 3, 4 or even 5 layers. They were most popular from about 1895 - 1915 but were still around in the 1920's. They were Victorian style with birds and flowers and frequently included a tissue honeycomb. We have a box of these all individually wrapped in tissue with about 50 of this style and then over a hundred of the "new" flat type which became popular in the 1930s and beyond. The colors of German lithography was so good even 100 years ago that these are really not faded at all. They were quite expensive for their day selling for 10-15 cents a piece! This is my entry for the contest.

They absolutely gorgeous cards Kathy! They are quite a keepsake. I love how they have their own little stand to present them around the house. You have presented them very well and this makes a fine entry for the contest.

These are beautiful antique cards, yet I really like how you have set this shot up, with the dark background, lace and flowers. It all comes together so nicely, Kathy. Good luck in the contest!

Kathy, in my country (Holland) they were called 'poezie album plaatjes'.
Most of the girls had an unwritten poetry album where (similar but smaller) die-cut valentines were pasted by family and friends and an appropriate text or poem was written. My late wife had even more albums. This habit continued here till about 1955. Brings warm memories to me!

Wonderful entry. Good Luck my friend.

Gorgeous cards! So much work used to go into Valentines that they were really works of art. I notice that forget-me-nots are prominent on each card carrying their own message.

I love the bright colors, the 3D look, the lace and flower arrangement as a background. This is a really lovely presentation.
