This is a Phragmipedium which is a type of slipper orchid originally found primarily in the tropical forests of South America. This was taken at the winter orchid show at the Chicago Botanic Garden. I really liked this one for the color, the distinct markings on the slipper portion and of course the name. I hope our jerseygirl Laura likes it as well. My foofy for this Friday a bit early.

I really do like these "Jersey Girl" orchids Kathy - they're beautiful - love the tropical colors and shape - Great Capture and so nicely presented for Foofy Friday!!!!!!

I am always amazed by the variety that exists in the orchid family. Have not heard of this type. Thank you for introducing it and for a fine image.

Are these the slippers Mercury wears? Those wingtips would come in handy for flight. A good close up on the orchids, Kathy/ Nice details and focus in the photo.
