Saw this in the semi-tropical greenhouse at the Chicago Botanic Garden and really liked it both the leaves and the color of the flower. Here's some info from Wikipedia: "Mexican Shrimp Plant is a bushy evergreen shrub growing to 39 in. tall by 24 - 35 in. broad. The stems and leaves are downy. The leaves are variegated and usually grow in clusters on the branches. As the plant receives more sun, the amount of creamy white on the speckled leaves will increase, and vice versa. The flowers emerge from bracts that form off the stems. The bracts start out white, but with more sun exposure they turn anywhere from pale pink to deep salmon. Blooming continues for months once it has begun, then halts for a short period before starting again. The flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies. Pollination is usually by hummingbirds."

I wish I was a Glow Worm, a Glow Worm's never glum, 'cause how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?

Nicely done Kathy, I don't usually see these, but have heard of them. If I lived close to that botanical garden I would be there alot. The one in South Bend, was not so good when I visited it some years ago, and I did not like the area, they had to keep the door locked and had to let visitors in, not a comfortable experience.

I was expecting to see a factory with people working for lower wages Kathy. Too much Trump on TV I guess.
I love the photo. It would be nice to see some butterflies and hummingbirds again.

I agree with what Richie wrote. It is a very unusual flower and a nice one too Kathy.

---The flowers attract hummingbirds and butterflies---

Didn't know that they were fond of 'salty shrimps', Kathy, LOL!!!

Thanks for another wonderful capture, my friend.

Kathy - A new variety for me - I appreciate the description. You captured this well. Composed with foliage and bloom as the focus, using blank space effectively; good depth of field and lighting to show the plant's unique characteristics. Well done!
