This is a male and it looks like it might be a mix - black duck and mallard. The black duck is very closely related to mallard but as you can see on this one he still has the touch of purple on the head characteristic of the black duck and the darker chest feathers. His bill also is not the same color as the mallard. I believe there is a lot of cross breeding going on in this pond at Flick Park where I shot this Saturday. I do have a picture of a female black and her babies and you can see differences in coloration in her and the offspring. I'll post that sometime soon.

Happy to see you took your doctor's advice and did some walking around the park, Kathy. After the smokehouse and the bistro, I'm happy to see you can still carry your own weight while walking and don't need a Hyster lift truck to haul you around.

Nice shot of the duck. I've never seen one like that. I'm not sure my friends in the KKK would approve of this cross-breeding as they are all fine examples of the purity of their race.

I am partial to shots with water and greenery. I especially like the touch of the green slime on the rocks.

No noise, well focused, no cloning oddities that I can see. No complaints this time. I double up next shot.

Kathy, think it's a common mallard after its visit to a beauty parlor, LOL!!!
Please don't take this above comment serious, as I'm kidding (again).

A very fine capture however of a to me rare American black duck.
