On the path to Evening Island at the botanic garden, as we approach the bridge there are a few flat stones among the Pickerelweed. This is a favorite spot for the ducks to preen and nap. Here's some info about Pickerelweed: "Pickerelweed is an aquatic plant which grows three to four feet tall. Usually, you only see one or two feet, because the rest is underwater. Pickerelweed leaves are large and heart-shaped, growing up to 10 inches long. They have a long leaf stem. Pickerelweed grows in shallow freshwater, such as marshes, pond edges, lakes, and stream sides. This plant is most often recognized by its beautiful flowers. Pickerelweed has large spikes with clusters of violet-blue flowers. The nectar of Pickerelweed flowers attracts many insects, including bees and butterflies." (compiled from various sources)

Kathy, think that the duck is waiting for more Pickerelweed to bloom. Meanwhile it's 'performing' a nap, lol.
Thanks for your interesting and fine tour, my friend.

Nice photo of them with the bird. We have a lot of Pickerel weed down here. They do have beautiful flowers but are very invasive to native plants. Here's a photo I took a while back of one of the plants.
