Also known as Blanket Flower - either because it can blanket an area quickly or because of it's resemblance to the colors used in Native American woven blankets. There are many wild varieties of this flower common in the southwestern USA and now many hybridized varieties as well. It's in the sunflower family.

The Gaillardia (its official name) is named after Gaillard de Merentonneau coming from France. In my country this flower is named Goblin as well.
It's an 'easy' flower and even with a lack of human attention it will reward us with wonderful colors.
