Kathy, I like to add to Richie's comment that tulips, once they're cut, necessarily aren't have a short life. My dear late wife knew some tricks to extent their 'life-time'. One of the tricks was to stick (and retract) a pin trough the stem just below the tulip flower. Strange, but true. I saw with my own eyes that the treated tulips, even after a couple of days, stood right while the not treated ones seemed to be weeping, because of their bended stems.
