Unaltered picture of a campfire I built a few nights ago. The color comes from a few old-fashioned color flame-crystals that I found in an antique store. Hope you enjoy, Ben
Hey if you like color heres a way its safe and fun take a 1"-2"copper pipe 8 to 10 inchs long set it in the fire. cut small pieces of old rubber hose 1-2 inchs take a long stick or something and insert the hose into the pipe WOW watch the color.A science major taught me this.
You can make colored campfire flames by throwing different salts in the fire. Copper sulfate would make a green flame for example. Lithium salts make a beautiful red flame. Potassium salts = pink, magnesium salts = white. It's a really cool effect. Just throw some of the compound into the fire, and watch the flames change color.
There is another way of doing this to, I have images of a campfire my dad built but not the time to scan and upload them. We used a 1inch (round) x 6-8inch (long) copper pipe and a 5-7inch long piece of garden hose. It gives a similar effect just remember to crimp the ends the copper pipe once you have put the garden hose in, this normally lasts 2hours.
