Please view in largest format...My weekly visit to a Correctional Facility and my having my new Lens for my Canon EOS Rebel XT digital camera had me waiting outside a bit, and as I looked up at the ugliness of the wires there, I saw this tiny bird and somehow it all just "clicked" in my head, in more ways than one. The contrast not only of the wires and his freedom, but my knowing how life is on the "inside" for these women, the Mamas, the Daughters, the Grandmas even, well, it touches ones heart to see families divided in this way. A short while there, yes, for a bit of discipline and correction, but a long while, no. This is a Minimum Correctional Facility, and altho there are a few good 'programs' there, mostly it is very difficult for the women and their families. My heart goes out to them. I wanted to share this photo with all of you, and maybe bring some thoughts into your minds that would be positive energy for them. Thanx for viewing this.

This shot is quit interesting and shows there is not such a great world inside. Like the presentation. Good work, Verena

This post made me think of a very old song that I couldn't remember the name. Just a line. Hope you like it. Very thought provoking V.

Whoa, a lot of emotion in this, and as Tick said, very thought-provoking. The small bird, by virtue of its size, is free...

Fantastic shot, and narrative, Verena. That little bird can just fly over the wire any time it wants. Free As A Bird...as the song goes. But on the other side it's a different story. Very thought provoking narrative, to go along with the picture.

What a thought provoking shot, Verena. there is beauty in the patterns made by the wire and ugliness in what it represents.I greatly admire your humane attitude to the inmates and their families.

Great shot V. and a super narrative. Makes you think a little bit. Love the photo in black and white. I don't think it could have worked any other way.

I think this is a great shot, Verena. The b&w and the subject go hand in glove. I also very much liked your narrative. I must admit, until you mentioned it I had not even noticed the little bird. Well done!

Very significant. Even without the theme behind the shot I think you took something quite plain and made it beautiful. Great job! The Black and white looks great for that and I think that even without the bird it would be a powerful picture!

This is an interesting juxtaposition for ideas. I wish we didn't need prisons...but we do. A friend of mine spent three months in one and It was depressing going to visit. The good news is he's worked hard, straightened out his life and has a great job in art and film, making himself a lot of money. So maybe it did help as awful as it was.
