This is the 'main street' of Bannack, Mt. which was originally named for the Bannock Indians, and the name Bannock is a Scotch word and means 'a cake cooked over an open fire.' It's believed the town got it's change in spelling when the Post Office was established in 1863, and when the name was submitted to Washingtond, D.C. the "O" was taken for an "A." In the beginning Bannack had about 255 natives, the population grew to 3000 during the gold rush days, then in 1879 it was down to 900 or so, by 1920 it was down to 59! When I visited Bannack, I could almost feel all the feelings of days gone by! A person can't help but think of the life there was once in those early gold mining days. Go for a visit if you can. Soon I'll be doing a website on this little ghost town, and eventually a book!! Thanx so much for enjoying these photos.

Another shot of yours I like a lot, with your skillful talents at work again. I like old towns, and your finishing touches. Nice viewing. Looking forward to more when you find them.

Did you see and cowpoke ghosts when you were there? Probably a few hanging out in the saloon, where ever that is at. Nice post, Verena.

A nice old shot. I'd like to have walked up this muddy old street. You've taken some wonderful photos.

It creates questions in my mind: Who were the people who built this tiny town in the middle of nowhere? And what kind of guests did the old hotel shelter? What kind of joys and sorrows did the townsfolk feel? Were there celebrations and tragedies? I like this series of yours, Ms. V.

Like the way U are using the sepia for these images. I suspect one of the sorrows the town folk had was walking in mud.

This is a really interesting and beautiful series. Would like to see it with my own eyes sometime and maybe I'll stay in that nice looking hotel. LOL
