Here is the Mathews House, it's one of the few homes built by those who wanted to "stay awhile". There are also the Gibson houses, which were the same sort of thing. They were built stronger, so that the family could stay warmer and longer. That would be tough, because family life in Bannack at that time went thru terrible hardships.Just to get there they went thru dust storms, drought, starvation, Indian attacks and more. Then to arrive there with no decent place to live. Some lived in their wagons for a while. This little home looked pretty well built. I didn't use the Sepia for it, I kind of wanted all of you to see the "real" colours. The sky was a bit 'washed out' but it was that way most of the time, other then when it had snowed. Thanx to all for keeping up with my Ghost town series.

Don't worry about the sky,I think it would distract from the scene to have a bright blue sky. This is a peek back in time and these "real" colors are perfect. What a house and look at that fence. An amazing construction for so long ago before modern tools. Love this V! :)Ami

The sky is not a problem in this beautiful shot, Verena. This is really gorgeous. I could live there.

Beautiful presentation of this lovely home! Must have been real hard for them indeed.
Think it's a good thing that the houses are still there to remind people of those days.

Nice work Lady V! Looks like it would still make a fine little home.

Really like this big time Verena. Great the way you presented it with this gorgeous frame. Really like the fancy roof triming. Wonderful information.

Verena, this one belongs on the cover of a book. There is a lot of story in this photo.

Looks like the Little House in the Big Woods. I like the foreground to the background image. Great job and it's been a great series. Keep some more coming.

Glad you left it as is. The little bit of green adds. Noticed the lattice work around the roof. Someone put a lot of work into this little home. Nice capture again.

Mr. Mathews must have been a true optimist. To build a house in a place depicted as being pretty lawless. Nice image, Verena.

It actually looks like a snug little home, though I imagine winter could bring on a fearsome case of cabin fever... My great-great grandmother sat a claim in Dakota Territory in a sod shanty... I can't imagine.
