I thought everyone might enjoy seeing this bigtime train engine. It sits idle in a small coastal town named Garibaldi, Or. I don't know any of it's history, not sure how to find out. But since Bruce (Flmngseabass) posted such a handome Train engine, I thought all of you might enjoy this as well.

Good morning Verena
Haven't seen one of these in ages. I remember as a child standing by a goods yard watching engines such as these shunting, and watching them cruise by on the main line pluming smoke (and let's not forget the ash) into the sky as they proceeded on their busy business. Or standing on the platform beside one of these, listening to the noises and feeling the heat coming from the boiler, or even (when one was really lucky) being allowed to stand up in the area where the driver and fireman stood watching the coal getting shoveled in, and watching wheels and things being spun. Good memories. Thanks for posting this.

Music is more than the notes we hear; it is the spaces between the notes that make it complete.

Wouldn't it be wonderful to see it moving? We as kids used to line up our four pennies and wait for the next train to run over them to see who had the best shape when it went by. This engine reminds me of that. Great photo.

It reminds me of Petticoat Junction. I think the train was The Cannonball, if I remember correctly. You have captured this beautifully, Verena. That is one handsome engine.

A beautiful capture of the old steam train Verene. Great post. A little info that I found.
This 48-inch driver Baldwin logging Mikado was built in 1926 for the Polson Logging Company of Hoquiam, WA as their #90. #90 continued to operate out of Railroad Camp after Polson became Rayonier Incorporated in 1945 and was retired in the early 1960s. #90 was then sold to the Oregon Memorial Steam Train Association in 1963 and moved to Lumberman's Park in Garibaldi for display.

Nice "Choo Choo choice" Verena!! Cool engine and nice picture. My dad was a fireman for the Union Pacific Railroad for 40 years so trains are a good part of me and my childhood. Thanks for sharing.:):)

A mighty fine engine and you have captured it wonderfully, Verena! It seems sad that it's just sitting idle. I'm thinking this would be a fun one to try some selective color techniques or sepia tone for a old world look. Thanks so much for sharing this old relic! :)

I love trains now just as I did when I was a kid. I bet this would be even more dramatic in B/W, but this one is perfect the way it is.

Great photo. I love trains, as should be obvious from my user name. Great research info, Ed. I would add this is what's called a 2-8-2 configuration, I believe. For those of you who don't know, this is a way of identifying a steam locomotive; the first number referring to the number of front non-drive wheels, the second number referring to the number of drive wheels and the last number referring to the number of back non-drive wheels.

the old lady is still a beauty. Wonderful picture, Verena.
