My wife went to Boyd's Bear Country just east of Gettysburg this weekend and cut me loose to go explore Gettysburg. I didn't really have much time but still got to see a piece of history. This is in the Gettysburg National Cemetary, about 300 yards from where Lincoln gave the Gettysburg address.

Awesome photo Rob. Perfect clarity and wonderful composition. The dynamic foreground with those headstones in the back sure tells its own story. EXCELLENT work you've done here and thanks for sharing this keeper.

This shot really captures the feeling of the place, with the tombstones in the background and a big, dark, lethal weapon at center stage contrasting with the peaceful, green, rolling hills. Bloodiest battle of the Civil War (although not the bloodiest single day; that distinction belongs to Antietam; but this was a three-day slaughter).

My husband and I were in tears before we'd gotten halfway through reading the plaque on which the Gettysburg Address is inscribed, before our tour had even begun, and we left there changed persons. We recommend everybody go there, but after a long day, we are left hastily, oppressed by all the "ghosts", and are never going back.

I became a Civil War buff from that day on. But Gettysburg -- put it this way: although your picture is definitely a keeper, and you deserve congratulations for this image, it will never be on my desktop, any more than images of 9/11, and for the same reason.
