Someone suggested having a more blurred background and as I was going through my photos I found this closer view. I also tried this in black and white. If you like, let me know which one you prefer. The first one is here
This is a much better choice. B/W suits this well and you have isolated your subject. Of course, I would have removed the twigs on the right but then I would've had only praise. Excellent work!
I'm mellllltinggggg. I like the color version the best, but nonetheless, it is still a great shot. I can see that it was hanging by a thread, just barely holding on. Judging from the picture, I don't see how it lasted as long as it did.
Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.
My first thought (upon seeing this thumbnail) was that I liked the first one best, but then I put this one into full screen and now I like BOTH of them best! The original picture had an "unusual scene from nature" quality that makes it a keeper (on top of technical excellence, of course). This shot is infinitely more artsy, and the closeup and background treatment induce my brain to think "art", specifically shapes and textures, and not get wound up in how that big chunk of ice could hang like that for so long...
I'm not sure. The other one gives more of a sense of where this is (hanging over a river) and a clue as to its size, but there is something about the detail in this one that is really good too. So there you have it. A toss up!
Both photos are excellent, but the B&W closeup is far more dramatic. Cropping out the external clues to location and perspective make the fall seem more imminent. Great tonal range and comp. A big well done for our latest honored photographer!
Always remember - Follow the Yellow Brick Road, it will lead you to the Emerald City and OZ A very nice place to be. Trust me on this one, I live there. The Lion **** MY CAEDES GALLERY****Another Site I'm AT - MY DA HOME PAGE
Since I already have the first view in my mind, it's hard to say how I'd feel about seeing this one for the first time and then seeing the other one. They're both good and for different reasons. I also note that the view is definitely different and not just a crop so that gives it a different backdrop too!
"Where there is perhaps a province in which the photograph can tell us nothing more than what we see with our own eyes, there is another in which it proves to us how little our eyes permit us to see." ~Dorothea Lange
Amazing what a bit of post-production can do, this is a greatly improved version in my book. Not that the first wasn't very good too - you wouldn't have had this one without it after all!
Thanks to all my friends for the wonderful images I get to look at and learn from on Caedes every day. I always have something to say about them, but don't always have the time to record it. Please forgive me if I can't comment on all of your uploads.
This looks great too, and I like the b&w in this one, but I have to say I like your first post better. I like the cold winter colours in the first post and also the comp. Both are very good though.
Both are strong, I like the colors of the first version and I like the blurred background in the second one. Well done, especially because you have taken two different shots of a short-lived object!
Anything that excites me for any reason, I will photograph; not searching for unusual subject matter, but making the commonplace unusual.
