Have no problems to see this inventive image of mosquito grubs 'caught' in water drops from behind my screen, DP, lol.
Glad that you told us that there were no survivors, as one mosquito in my bedroom is sufficient to keep me awake all night long.
Regards, Cornelius.
The reason why the sunsets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
How was it done?
OK, OK, I'll tell all…
Glass table with plain paper supported about 2 inches below.
Off camera flash set to 1/4 power laying on table an inch or two to the right.
I used an eye dropper to select my victims and place them on the glass.
I used a 100mm macro lens and 68mm of extension tube to accomplish this magnification. A shorter focal length with less extension tube could accomplish the same and would be less unwieldy. Exposure 1/180th @ f32. The shadow on the background on the right is the shadow of the flash its self. It is that close. The darkness on the left is a graduated filter added in Lightroom. Oh yes; there was a little oil spread on the glass to hopefully help the water drops stand up and not just flatten out on the glass. I'm not sure it helped but the larvae seemed to appreciate the snack.
I would never have known what they are but the image caught my eye - great results from your work and thanks for explaining how it was done.
Different, clever and intriguing :)
Like the simplicity of colour here and the reflections of light on the water drops.
Nice image.
