I like the colors in this one a smidge better than "Geotronic", David. This posting has balls where "Geotronic" had little nuts. When I think about geometry, I think about angles and lines more than I think of spheres. That's the difference between plain and solid geometry.
So the answer to your question is: I like them both.
The reason why the sunsets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB
I found the little red spider, though it wasn't so easy. I think I like the increased definition and the colors of this one more. I don't think there are spheres in two dimensions, but there are lots of nice circles and lines. Quite a piece of interesting work.
Looking and comparing both images, as I write here. This one and that of and namely; "GeoTronic".
First, a curiosity on my part in the form of a question..
How did you perform the scaling?
Carrying on..
Think I prefer the colour palette of this one over that of "GeoTronics'".
Aside from being 'richer' and more vibrant, wasn't until I looked at the highest resolution size(s) that my preference became readily more apparent. In short ... better delineation overall with respect to the layering. Add to that, a lil' more eye-catching.
(Side Note: My CRT monitor struggles to make either one bright enough to see all that is on display.)
Caveats?
Suggestion..
Make the spheres in the upper/lower left-hand side a tad smaller. In turn and in effect, staying within their adjacent parallel lines. Some overlapping now, as presented to us.
The other spheres are just right, in terms of size. But.. could use a slight adjustment in alignment to 'center' them. If you understand me. (Most likely.. not. I have difficulty me own self, where me and my words are concerned. :oP)
Very ambitious piece, David.
Compositionally ... very nice. Given all that this one entails and encompasses. (Balance and placement, being the operative descriptors.)
Coming around to my previously posed interrogative ... wondering if some degradation in image quality occurred? Either through the option of resampling used or otherwise?
I am tempted to suggest some sharpening and/or differing resampling method to mitigate what my eyes are seeing on this note.
That nonsense aside..
To view an image such as yours here and not really have the word, 'busy' come to mind ... is a testament to your creativity methinks.
I spotted the spider lurking, deep in the machinery :-) Like Les, I thought some areas a little soft, and wondered if that might be due to reduced opacity... though the same transparency works beautifully in other areas of the image. I like the various nodules, particularly the way the small blue ones seem to cluster at the right hand side. They bring added texture and contrast. Good luck in the contest!
Just wanted you to know that I am now trying to decide amongst the submitted entries/images and their respective placing in this contest ... and yours is a strong contender.
So the answer to your question is: I like them both.
