"We were hiding in the bathroom. It's supposed to be the safest room. There was a terrible noise and suddenly the house was gone."

There really is no place to hide from a storm like this.

Truly devastating and an experience I hope to never know. What a sight, David. I hope it's not your house.

The reason why the sun sets in the evening is because it wants to see the sunrise in the morning. I rise in the morning because I want to see them both. RvdB

When I was a kid growing up in the Midwest, the tornado belt had a notch in the tri-county area I called home. Since those ancient days, the tornadoes have moved south. We used to hear the same tales about taking shelter in the basement in the northwest corner. But you are right. With truly powerful tornadoes (is there such a thing as a small, placid tornado?) it's just a matter of luck. There is no place to hide.

This is truly an amazing shot. The devastation is complete in a sense. Timbers are down everywhere and the house is a debris field, but the mirror just needs a little Windex. If Lewis Carroll lived there, he would have taken refuge inside the looking glass.

Chilling - I live in Birmingham AL and April was truly a devastating month. The tornado that went thru Tuscaloosa ultimately went through my Mom's neighborhood north of Birmingham, thankfully is was not on the ground in that area. It was still devastating and lots of damage from down trees.
