Experimentation with electric lighting began around 1802. Thomas Edison did not patent his practical implementation of the light bulb till 1878. It is amazing to think that just over 100 years ago no one had electric lights in their home.

"In the United States, federal law has scheduled the most common incandescent light bulbs to be phased out by 2014, to be replaced with more energy-efficient light bulbs. Traditional incandescent light bulbs were phased out in Australia in November 2009." Wikipedia.

I saw this shot in the featured images. Even at less than full screen size, I recognized your work, David. Whether it's flies or tornado strewn landscapes, you have a style that can be recognized from miles away. I know that this looks like a simple shot of a light bulb. I also know that your set up for shots is rarely simple. This shot probably was taken using a series of mirrors, a couple of glass tables and at least one orbiting satellite. It's beautiful in its simplicity. As always this shot is perfection.

I was your Caedes friend for years but finally gave up when I realized that there was nothing to critique. What can you say when there's no excessive noise, no oversaturation, perfect composition and flawless focus and clarity. I refuse to simply say "nice shot" and I simply ran out of superlatives.

A thought came to mind when I saw this and read your description... "What will we tell our grandkids about life in our day?" ... I know! We used to use these light bulb thingy's that produced so much heat and used so much electricity that it wasn't even funny. We also had something called tape cassettes and walkmen to make our life more enjoyable... ahh... the good old days. :)

Thanks for documenting this piece of history that will be doomed to the history books soon :)

A person without a sense of humor is like a wagon without springs. It's jolted by every pebble on the road. --Henry Ward Beecher--
