The Colour Autumn Uploaded: 01/12/10 11:14 AM GMT

Image: The Colour Autumn

Taken 26th October 2008 in the Polish town of Mragowo, where I lived for a couple of years.

On the way out of town there was this old hill/park/thing that was covered in trees. Extremely green in summer, bleak in winter, and like this in autumn. I lived about a 10 minute walk from it.

The first year I was there I missed out on taking pictures of this place because the light and the weather just wasn't right. It was either overcast, or raining, or just plain miserable. The next year I waited until the leaves were just the right colour and ran for it one rare, sunny afternoon to make sure I got photos of this place.

I never really understood why people called autumn "fall" until I got to Europe.

Another shot of Josephine Falls

Cleaning out my harddrive a little. I found this shot in my pre-Europe folder. Josephine Falls is roughly halfway-ish between Tully and Cairns in Far North Queensland, Australia. It's a really pretty place and you can go swimming (no crocodiles!). Although, you're only allowed to swim in certain places as it's too dangerous to swim in the upper tiers of this waterfall and people have died doing it. Taken on my old Canon Powershot A620 back in 2007...in the middle of winter believe it or not *grins*.

Murrissippi Uploaded: 01/02/10 8:08 AM GMT

Nope, this isn't the Mississipi mispelt. This is the Murrissippi ^__^. Half Mississippi, half Murray.

It's not actually a real river, it's manmade. It can be found at Dreamworld in Queensland, Australia. One of the "Big Three" theme parks on the Gold Coast (and my personal favourite. They have tigers!).

There's a paddlesteamer that goes around this. Once upon a time (when I was a little girl) there was a show that was put on for the passengers on the banks of the river. It was a Bushranger show with hold-ups and firefights. Sadly, they don't do that anymore, but these huts and the like can still be found on the banks.

Taken from the (moving. This pic was hard to take!) park train (6 December 2009), that goes around the outside of the park much like the one you can find in any Disneyland...actually, Dreamworld reminds me a little of Disneyland. Just a little.

A Koala.

Taken at Dreamworld in Brisbane, Australia back in early December (2009). These guys spend the majority of their time sleeping. I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen one of these moving (and that includes in the wild!)

Almost Stillness Uploaded: 12/24/09 10:03 AM GMT

Image: Almost Stillness

Taken somewhere up near Cooktown, Australia last year. This is part of a beatiful river/waterfall area just off the main road. The water in this section was so still that I could see the reflections of clouds and trees in it.

Taken back in June of last year (2008)

In the Mists Uploaded: 12/21/09 12:06 AM GMT

The first station on the Kuranda Skyrail up here in Tropical Far North Queensland.

You can get out and walk around with a guide who tells you the history of the surrounding rainforest and information about some of the plants that you can see (like the Kauri pines, which are a couple of hundred years old).

Notre Dame Uploaded: 12/20/09 5:45 AM GMT

Taken at Easter this year (2009). Notre Dame, Paris.

This is taken from the back of the church after sitting in on the Easter Mass. I have a couple of different shots of this place. There were some beautiful gardens and some statues on a fountain.

Sunset at Gizycko lake back in January of this year. That raised thing in the right hand almost corner...that's where some people cut a great big hole into the ice and went scuba-diving O.O.

Taht white expanse you can see is the lake (frozen over). That had to be the biggest lake I have ever seen!

Sacre Coeur Uploaded: 11/30/09 6:52 AM GMT

Sacre Coeur in Paris.

Taken during Easter of this year. What you don't see in this picture is the hundreds, upon hundreds of people just out of the camera's view.

I think this is the highest point in Paris. The view is amazing!

Sunshine in the Freezer Uploaded: 11/28/09 4:31 AM GMT

Taken from the same location as my earlier picture "Home Sweet Freezer" only on a different, sunnier day. It was still absolutely freezing though. About -15C

Taken in Februaryish of this year.

Stoney Creek Uploaded: 11/27/09 7:34 AM GMT

A waterfall that's visable from the Kuranda Scenic Railway in Cairns, Far North Queensland. It's a slow day for this waterfall. There are days where it'll come out right over the train (which makes it fun trying to get a picture).

The Walls of the Wawel Uploaded: 11/23/09 10:40 AM GMT

Image: The Walls of the Wawel

Taken New Years Eve 2007. This is the outside of the Wawel Castle in Krakow.

Anyone familiar of the legend of 'St. George and the Dragon'? It happend here. There's a cave under the castle that you can walk through in the summer. They even have a fire-breathing, again, in Summer, dragon.

Cooktown Uploaded: 11/22/09 3:45 AM GMT

A view of Cooktown taken from Grassy Hill back in June of 2008.

Cooktown is about 4 hours from Cairns, Queensland, on a road that is now, thankfully, paved the whole way - meaning you don't have to have a 4WD anymore to get there.

A bit of history for you: Cooktown is the site of Captain (who was actually Lieutenant at the time) Cook's first landing in Australia - there's a stone monument sitting where the actual site lies. He'd crashed into the Great Barrier Reef and lost his anchor and a couple of cannons, which now sit in the James Cook Museum in Cooktown. He spent several weeks here repairing his ship before heading home.

Grassy Hill, where I'm standing to take this picture, was the site of the first European sighting of a Kangaroo. There's a statue there to commemorate it (and, yes, I have a picture of it). Cook climbed it at some point to try and see a way out of the Great Barrier Reef.

Zaanse Schanse Houses Uploaded: 11/21/09 7:11 AM GMT

Image: Zaanse Schanse Houses

Taken back in 2007, Summer. This is Zaanse Schanse again in Holland. We went for a walk around the area.

While it looks lovely and sunny here we literally had to run for it about 10 minutes after I took this photo. It started to pour buckets of rain!

No, this is not in black and white. This is the actual colour of the sky etc.

About 50m down the road from my other snow pic "Home Sweet Freezer". This particular day it ended up snowing for about 18hours.

Obelisk and Church Uploaded: 11/18/09 9:07 AM GMT

Image: Obelisk and Church

In a Piazza in Rome. Navona. Taken back in 2006.

Also home of what was dubbed "The Running of the Bags". Illegal bag sellers being chased by very determined police (there was reverse driving a la Da Vinci Code and guys getting slammed into doors). The sellers would go storming up one end of the plaza and then 5 minutes later they'd come running up the other end.

So, we were visiting my uncle in Holland when he suggested we visit this place. The weather was absolutely miserable for most of our time in Holland (*laughs* Cold, wet, and windy was my main impression of the weather whenver I visited there and I was there in three different seasons... I love the place, anyway), but it cleared up for the most of the time we were at Zaanse Schanse.

This is one of the first houses you see as you walk in on the right. I'd love to go back there one day.

Day of the Dead part 1 Uploaded: 11/15/09 8:48 AM GMT

Image: Day of the Dead part 1

Taken back on the 2nd November of last year. As I mentioned in my last photo, I lived in Mragowo, Poland for a couple of years. Every Day of the Dead they would go and clean the graves of their departed loved ones. Then they'd put flowers and light candles on them. These they'd leave until the flowers had wilted and the candles had burnt out. This particular night there was a really heavy fog. My co-worker called me and told me to get my behind to the the graveyard if I wanted to take pictures of a cultural tradition that we just don't have in Australia...that and it was just plain eerie with that fog.

Home Sweet Freezer Uploaded: 11/14/09 10:39 AM GMT

Image: Home Sweet Freezer

This was taken early this year in January in a small Polish town called Mragowo. I lived there for a while. That big white patch is actually a lake that's frozen solid! (A large novelty to an Australian, let me tell you!). The temperature that particular day was about -18C.
