The woods are dry after a couple of weeks without rain. When it's quiet, you can hear the crackling leaves falling.
A great way to find fall color pictures in any season.
Meet Ole and Susannah, seemingly friendly country folks. But beware their hospitality, for behind Susannah, you can see their latest captive visitor, frantically signalling for help.
Maple trees showing off their fall raiment in the late afternoon sun.
A gray day in early autumn, after a recent rain.
Once again, no bears spotted. Nice autumn scenery, however.
The early morning sun lighting up the forest canopy.
Treacherous footing and dangerous rapids, two elements that add excitement to an otherwise routine fall photograph. ☺
These two walls are all that's left of the rock crusher building, which was in operation in the Banning Quarry in the late 1800s. Crushed rock was loaded onto rail cars on tracks that ran between these walls.

The last fruit on this crabapple tree, proudly displayed in the golden autumn sunlight.
Aspen and maple leaves resting on a rock beneath the surface of Wolf Creek in Banning State Park.
Giant red oak boughs shade the eyes from the bright, early morning sun.
Taken about an hour after sunrise, actually, at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum. The arboretum covers about 1200 acres and offers some great fall color.
How I spent my weekend. This shot was taken from the bluffs above the Kettle River in north-central Minnesota.
A few acres of prairie, bordered by hills populated with maples and oaks. The surrounding hills are used in the winter for skiing and snowboarding. Hills are the best we can do for mountains in Minnesota.
Taken just this morning while out looking for grizzly bears to photograph, but not a bear in sight.
You can get a stiff neck admiring the colors overhead.
The halcyon days of autumn. So short a season, with winter hard on its heels.
Another thing I like about this time of year, besides the fall color, cooler temperatures, and fewer bugs, is that the sun rises later in the morning. I don't need to get out of bed so early to catch the good light.
