Phenomenal Delicate Arch Uploaded: 09/26/11 10:44 PM GMT

Delicate Arch is a 52-foot (16 m) tall freestanding natural arch located in Arches National Park near Moab, Utah. It is the most widely-recognized landmark in Arches National Park and is depicted on Utah license plates. Nearly died of Heat Exhaustion trying to reach this beauty. It was 115 degrees F and no cover up the steep rock. Our water appeared to have been boiled. I recovered quickly once I could see this magnificent formation.

This guy was just as comfortable as could be. I suspect he hasn't seen many humans and was unimpressed.

Medieval villages dot the lush hillsides. This is the Garfagnana region of Tuscany, Italy...approximately 40 minutes from the beautiful walled city of Lucca. I was born in them there hills. In any season...spectacular...and a different place in time.

Scala Dei Turchi (Turkish Steps) Uploaded: 09/21/11 11:37 PM GMT

Image: Scala Dei Turchi (Turkish Steps)

In Porto Empedocle off Southern Sicily. The Scala is formed by marl, a sedimentary rock with a characteristic white color. It lies between two sandy beaches, and is accessed through a limestone rock formation in the shape of a staircase, hence the name. The latter part of the name derives from the frequent raids carried on by Turkish and Barbary Coast pirates. The black dot on the Stairs is my friend.

This flower seemed so dainty and fragile and yet, was a hearty wildflower I saw in the higher elevations of Glacier National Park.

Sorry to do this to all of you...LOL This was before digital and I was learning to develop B&W film in my basement. I decided to superimpose two negatives and this was the result. I still think this is cool :) Looks a bit sinister as well.

Unmistakable St Mary Lake Uploaded: 09/19/11 12:52 AM GMT

Glacier National Park. The trail to this lake was very narrow with thick forest on either side. We had Bear Spray but I was uneasy. Too bad...I was anxious to leave. This lake was truly spectacular
