Caedes Christmas Contest!

Submitted by caedes 12/20/04 5:06 AM GMT

Announcing the “A Day in the Life of Caedes” contest, with many thanks to Mum42 for coming up with this unique view of the world! The contest is open to all members with a limit of two entries and a submission deadline of January 5th, 2005. The images should be photographs or photographic manipulations or abstracts that best express the entrant’s view or interpretation of the time and place – limited to the 24-hour cycle of 4pm (1600) December 24th through 4pm (1600) December 25th, 2004. This local time frame is to accommodate traditions in the US and abroad, so that both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day celebrations can be acknowledged.

Entries will be judged on content and originality, as well as artistic and technical merit. The judges will also be looking for works that best describe Christmas Eve and Day in a time, place, and situation unique to the author. All submissions must be of images taken within the specified 24-hour period, and brief descriptions are encouraged.

A fantastic idea. So you have to take the picture between December 24 and 25? I dont know that I will be participating or anything but it sounds great!

I was about to ask if the pictures could be taken earlier, but I read the fine print. Wow, I was about 20 minutes too early to have them count!

Just wondering if there is any particular reason why the contest entries haven't been placed in the Current Contests gallery?

hmmm.... it is there - but you seem to have to follow the link via the New Images > Contest link instead of contests direct - don't know why!!!

Oh, now I see! I have been clicking on "Contests" , then "Current Contests." I just assumed that is where they would be located. Most strange.

Rebecca, the mods decided to leave things in new images for the duration of the entry period. The idea was that they'd be more visible, being in the new images gallery rather than in the contests gallery.

Thanks for the explanation, Mike, I appreciate it! Maybe I'm being presumptuous, but why wouldn't they be located in both places? Or why would there still be a Current Contest section under the contests heading? Maybe I should leave all that to the Mods, though ;) I'm just glad mythica helped me find them! :)

CG: Currently the coding for the site doesn't allow images to appear in multiple galleries (except for ones like "Lonely Images" which aren't set up the same way, hence they don't have the normal gallery functions such as no. of images per page, sort by date etc.)

Sam's got it exactly, at least as far as my understanding of the site goes. Also, the reason for the "Contests->Current Contest" gallery is that the gallery selections for upload are pulled from the list of permanent galleries. So for anyone to be able to upload to "New Images->Contests->Current Contest" there needs to exist a "Contests->Current Contests".

I'm going to try to sneak in an entry or two tonight myself, since I've procrastinated long enough and I'll be away for the rest of the week...:)

Well, since the crowd was sparse, they figure they should do it again next year and compile the results before judging. ;-)
