Contest #14: Pop Art Begins
Submitted by xentrik 06/22/05 2:57 PM GMT
The contest has begun and entries will now be placed in new images->contests->current contest. I'm also pleased to announce that caedes has generously offered to award the first place winner with up to a poster-sized print of their winning entry*. More information about the contest (including rules) is discussed below.
"Everything is beautiful. Pop is everything." -Andy Warhol
The theme of out next contest will be based on the movement of "Pop Art". Loosely, pop art is creating something artistic from an easily recognizable, or perhaps grossly overused, popular cultural icon. Some examples of this movement include Roy Lichtenstein's Mustard on White, or Andy Warhol's Campbell's Tomato Soup, or Mao. The challenge in this contest is to create your own piece of Pop Art.
Submissions should not be made before Wednesday, June 22nd, to allow time for questions to be posed regarding rules. After that, rules are set, and submissions must adhere to them in order to be considered during voting. Please post any questions in the thread below so all will know the answers. All submissions must be made by Sunday, July 10th at 11:59PM EST.
- Submissions for the contest must be done in the pop art style, that is, based on a pop phenomenon. More examples of the style can be found on this page, and google has many more examples.
- If you choose to use photos within your submission, even edited photos, they must be in the public domain (or a stock library) or taken by yourself or a teammate.
- Optionally, you can work in a team of 2-3 members.
- One individual and two team submissions per person will be accepted at the end of the contest. If you wish to replace a submission, remove it from the site or ask a mod to move it to the new images gallery.
* The actual size of the print will depend on the file size you are able to provide. To be able to recieve a 20"x30" poster, you will need to work with a 4000x6000 pixel image, then save a copy at 1600x1200 to submit to the contest. If you work in smaller dimensions, you will only be able to recieve a smaller print. If the winning entry is submitted by a team, the winners will recieve up to $20 in printing and shipping costs provided to divide as they see fit. This should definitely be enough for three smaller-sized prints.
Second and third place winners will recieve
Caedes Cadre memberships.
