Artist Spotlight # 25

Submitted by mimi 08/14/07 4:25 PM GMT

Well, we have another artist to be spotlighted. This one is most recognized by her greeting of 'Kia Ora'. I present to you LynEve
Eve has a unique way of presenting her images to us, so take a break from your busy day and peruse her gallery after you read the bio below & leave her some feedback on her work. Kia Ora Everyone :)

“What is Art?”

Tolstoy had some ideas and wrote a whole book on the subject :) I am too busy with my camera to read it lol, but through the wonders of the Internet I learn that part of his theory was that “Art must create a specific emotional link between artist and audience, one that ‘infects’ the viewer. Thus, real art requires the capacity to unite people via communication” I think that happens here. I know I am infected by much of what I see. Artworks do not have to be masterpieces; they just need to say something. Communication can only be good. If any one of my pictures has touched someone in any way, then I am proud to be a part of that.

The very fact that I am writing this is a tribute to the members of Caedes who have provided inspiration, advice, and their valued opinions, since I discovered the site in February 2006, and I thank you for this honour, which took me by surprise and actually made me speechless (for a short time anyway :) The most enjoyable things for me about being a member are catching a glimpse into the lives and countries and sometimes the minds of others, to learn from help so willingly and generously given, and be inspired by such a diverse group of artists whose work is a joy to behold. I am often in awe of much of it.

I discovered Caedes by following a link saying this was the best site on the Internet for desktop wallpapers. It was correct. It was, and still is. I read that it is a “close community of artists, designers, and photographers” and I joined, not thinking I fitted into any category and still not sure that I do. I am a VAP– Very Amateur Photographer. At that time my camera was a 2MP Kodak (LS420) which had only one control, the shutter button, and I had never photographed anything other than snaps of family occasions. I hope it is an encouragement to those who do not have top-of-the-range equipment that one or two of my photos taken with that camera are included in the permanent galleries. Any camera can take a good photo. Since then I have used my Kodak V550 and more recently a Panasonic DMC-FZ7. I do most of my post-processing with Paint Shop Pro. I have aspirations to own a DSLR but before that will have to learn a bit more about manual controls, instead of relying on Auto, so for now I will continue to ‘point and shoot’. I am learning the terminology - I now know that DOF is not Daft Old Fool, White Balance is not some sort of washing powder, and Exposure is not . . . well, not what I thought it was.

The discovery of fractals and other computer art was an eye opener for me and my admiration for the skills of those artists is immense, even encouraging me to dabble a little, and although very few of my efforts are for public display I do enjoy experimenting.

I am asked to choose my favourite image – I do not really have one. It is usually the one I am working on or the one I have just uploaded. If I did have to choose it would be Liverpool Echo, firstly because it was my first image to fulfill my ambition of gaining a score above 90, and secondly because it was a one-off shot, proving that sometimes we should shoot before thinking.

I call New Zealand ‘home’, having lived here since childhood, although I have a great affection and attachment for my birthplace, England. I have visited the UK three times since. The most recent (and likely the last) was just one year ago, when I was able, for the first time, to show my husband of 38 years my place of origin. Possibly it explained to him some of my peculiarities lol Some of you know me as Lyn, others as Eve, and some LynEve. I answer to any. I am also known as Mum and Nana. We have three grown up sons. The two elder ones live in NZ and have blessed us with four beautiful grandchildren. Our youngest son lives in the north of England very close to where I was born. I have worked part time in a legal office for 22 years, which keeps me busy.

I would like to pay tribute to the founder and owner of the site, Caedes. We are so fortunate to have this site as a vehicle to display our varied and diverse selection and levels of talents. Thank you Sir, you’re a star! To those who give their time and effort behind the scenes, to keep the site running smoothly – thank you, you are appreciated for what you do. And thanks from me to all members. I believe this is indeed a close community, as stated on the front page. By working together and learning together we can keep it that way.

Haere Mai to any who venture into my Gallery – don’t get lost, it’s a large one. I resisted the temptation to delete some of the lower rated images – one of them may just be the one that ‘communicates’ with you :)

Keep smiling everyone.

LynEve

Kia ora, I've returned and I read your commentary and agree with all that you've said. You are so right about it not really mattering as much about the camera as it does the eye and the brain behind the viewfinder. The first images I was drawn to at this site were ones by you called "ToeToe" and "Peachy Pear". Since that time, I have become a fan of your wonderful life affirming photography and your style of presentation and you have become a friend. I know more now about New Zealand than I ever did before in my life and I have been enriched by that as well. This is an honor for which you are truly deserving. You love your art and it shows. :)

Yeah!!!!!! CONGRATS Eve!!!!!! you certainly deserve this award, your work is always a pleasure to view from b&w to colour, from beautiful scenes of NZ to your unique style of flowers (told you everyone likes your flowers.. lol).. I couldn't pick one I liked from your gallery because they are all great pieces, but the one that touched my heart was "Precious & New" with the mother & baby's hand.. that one had a lot of meaning to me as my daughter was 2 1/2 months early too.. the b&w and the softness was perfect for the shot..
You know you could sell the scenes of NZ to the dept of tourism for their website, we don't get shown the beautiful beaches you have over there most people get shown the mountains.
I love your flower pics, you have a wonderful way of presenting them, the frames or the softness is always complimentary to that particular flower..

Again Congrats.. its good to see a neighbour get the recognition.. well deserved..

Hello LynEve,

There she is.......skyward bound and along the way....lighting each star as a candle....while reaching downward to touch her beautiful presentations with stylish marks of magic...adding her touch of loveliness...to each and every photo.... photos she has so skillfully and professionally produced...

I am remembering dear, when you first mentioned your interest in 'floral' photography to me ...well...it was there that it all began...from then on...it was all downhill for Lyn....;o)...and that wasn't too very long ago!!

I, then after reviewing your photography further... I said to you at that time...Lyn...you undoubtedly will be a great 'floral' photographer...as it was so easy to see and to predict...;o)...It seemed that from that point on, you began to develop a style...a style all your own...one of softness, grace, and charm... qualities that you possessed and delivered to us through each and every photo you composed and presented!...Your photography is an absolute delight to view...your artistic delivery has simply grown by leaps and bounds Lyn...my sincere congratulations to you my dear...I still insist that I could, back then and now...learn a thing or two from you...and I will remain in your audience to make certain this happens...;o)...I hope you enjoy every minute of the pleasure...you have garnered here...and that 'the thrill of it all' remains in your heart and mind for a long time to come....YOU are a very deserving recipient of this honor..Lyn..indeed...smiling with pleasure....

Marilyn

P.S. I also would like to add, that your beloved New Zealand, has come to mean more to me now... than two large, and several small islands...in the South Pacific.... than before I had the pleasure of meeting you....;o) Thank you!

Lyn,
I must apologize that until now I have not discovered your fabulously beautiful images.
In just the last 15 minutes of browsing your gallery, I have found beauty in image selection, composition and artistry that I have found a true artist that in the next few days I'm going to spend a lot of time discovering.
There are so many truly inspiring artists here that I don't get around to everyone. But to say that I haven't REALLY seen your work before, is to admit that I have overlooked one of the greats on Caedes. Keep up the awe inspiring work.

Well shucks, I'm late to the party too. I failed to see this until a "little birdie" mentioned it to me. Long overdue my lady, loooooooooooooooooooooooog overdue. My hard drive is full of your images, especially the flowers. I have said this before and will say it again, you should be shooting professionally. Your flowers belong on the covers of the most dignified flower and gardening publications. And, the most amazing thing is...

SEE HOW ONE DOESN'T NEED TO SPEND THOUSANDS ON CAMERA AND LENS TO GET RESULTS? Go girl This is your day! Luv ya.

"Point and shoot." Sage advice, I call it! Congrats to a wonderful and creative and talented person. You deserve every bit of the recognition! (And you once put me at ease by sharing that you 'point and shoot on auto' which helped me tremendously... what a relief... someone else gets confused with all those buttons and cryptic icons on the camera...!) And yet again, by saying that a picture with a low score might be the one that resonates the most with someone else. Yes.

This is good news, Lyn - well done! You're right about Liverpool Echo - it's one of my favourite flower photos and somewhere amongst the first wallpapers I found on this site. You very much deserve your time in the spotlight.

PS I didn't even have to look up the picture to remember which one it was.

Hello Dear Lady ... I'm only 2 months late in doing this after being away for the summer. May I extend belated "Congrats' on your well deserved selection in the Artist Spotlight. For the better part of my membership first thing most mornings I've looked forward to your wonderful posts ... particularly your passion for flowers which permeates your photography. The honor is more than well deserved. I take some pride in your accomplishment, as I was clever enough to recognize your talent early on and made you a friend early before you became a "Celeb" as it were. So don't you go getting "Uppity" on me Eve ... remember ... I Knew You When. :)

I just finished an Altoids so my breath is minty fresh, because after all this is a special occasion. When you first started on Caedes, you wrote," I only take pictures of my family, I dont have much time for anything else". You didnt seem to fade away, you must of liked what you saw here because you made time. And you kept posting, and you kept asking questions. Anywhere else you may have been considered a pest. But here, we could easily spot an individual, trying to improve and develop her style. You didnt give up, you kept right on trying. That means all our comments were of some use, and that makes me feel good. You may be a half world away but the magic you create in your pictures reveals the imaginative and creative spirit we know as LynEve. Let me pop the top - So heres to you Ole Girl, stay just as you are. I am so happy you chose all of us on this site o share your Spirit with. BRAVO!

Congratulations Lyn, this is a honor you certainly deserve. Your posts have meant a lot to me, and I continue to anxiously wait for the next one! You have been an inspiration to me, because I too can only afford "point and shoot", and you showed me that this is all about enjoying life, being willing to share with others, and being willing to expand horizons and try new things. Thank you SO MUCH!
