Caedes UK get-together

Submitted by nigelmoore 10/04/07 1:11 PM GMT

I've started a thread in 'member-initiated projects' for anyone who'd be interested in a Caedes get-together in the UK. Leave a comment there if you are and let's see if it's worth trying to arrange something.

The news item has linked here, which is a new page. There are lots more comments on the original post. I'll keep an eye on both, so post wherever suits.

Don't worry Jen, Bob's 'sites' are easy to find. Anywhere there's a bench! You'll know he's been there if there's a can and a half-eaten sandwich under it.

I loved Paul Keating. He was so anti-formality. Even President Bush fell foul of her Maj when he winked at her on his last visit. There was outrage!

LOL I can see the headlines now 'Sir Mandroid snogs Queen'. Actually make that 'headless Sir Mandroid'.

Anyway we've gone a million miles from Caedes get-together (I know there are two threads but....). What's bothering me this morning is whether East Anglia is under water or not. Are you guys going to have to swim to get up north?

The surge tides were mighty high here on the Norfolk and Suffolk coast but they didn't breach the sea defences except at a village called Walcott.

JQ, SheWolfe and I still aim to come by car, not canoe!

COPY OF MESSAGE from NigelMoore:
---------------------------------------------------------

Ahem, Ladies and Gentlemen

**********************************

ATTENTION PLEASE

**********************************

Having now received quotes from 20 hotels Jan, Anne-Marie and I would like to present you with just ONE clear winner. The DUBROVNIK hotel in Bradford. They are offering us:

Double room for single use: £40 per night
Double room for double use: £50 per night
Single room (they only have 3): £40 per night

For the weekend of the 18th and 19th April.

In addition to the accommodation they are offering:

Exclusive use of their 'Times' wine bar on the Saturday evening (accommodates up to 50 people)

OR

Exclusive use of a curtained-off area of their restaurant

WITH

A buffet with menus from £14 - £19 per head in the wine bar OR

A sit-down a la carte four course meal in the restaurant for £16 a head.

For a copy of the menus see the website or ask us.

Those of you who've said you don't need overnight accommodation, I have confirmed with the hotel that there would be no problem with you coming for dinner only if you'd like to do that.

No-one else has come close to this. Leeds hotels (and we contacted more there than in Bradford) are either full or significantly more expensive. There are a couple of 'formula' hotels like Travelodge for a few pounds cheaper, accommodation only. Every single other hotel has come out more expensive. As a package we haven't been able to beat this one. Plus they've been the friendliest and most helpful on the phone - I've spoken with them three times this week.

I'm warned that we should take the website with a pinch of salt, and I'd like you to look at what Tripadvisor has to say to get a more balanced view.

This quote is based on a party of 30, and I've said I'll aim to confirm by the end of next week. Doubtless this will prompt some discussion on the thread, but if you're happy to go ahead on this basis could you let us know as soon as possible by emailing the caedesuk@blueyonder.co.uk address. At this stage we just need to know what rooms you need, whether you'd want one or two nights, and what size your party is.

If we're going to do a day's photography on the Saturday, we will need to offer a two night option for people like me, Jan and Anne Marie who are coming from places like London (me) and East Anglia (Jan and Anne-Marie). I know that some will just want the Saturday night.

I really hope you'll be happy with this option. Granted, Bradford's not the plushest city in the UK, but it has the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television, stunning countryside and some fabulous Victorian architecture.

===================================================
Using the email address, caedesuk@blueyonder.co.uk, if people can just send a message with room and party sizes that will do.

Once we know about deposits we'll send you an email requesting all the information we need. It wouldn't be sensible to put up personal information here.

Hi Jen,

You could drive or get the train from London - I'm happy to help with those arrangements and if enough people are coming in at the same time to travel up as a group. Please check out the main thread HERE for the most up to date information and discussions.

We'd love to have you along!!

Thanks to all my friends for the wonderful images I get to look at and learn from on Caedes every day. I always have something to say about them, but don't always have the time to record it. Please forgive me if I can't comment on all of your uploads.
